WoW, Sevrea
meme thing from [info]anneliese

Give me a fandom and I'll tell you:

1. The first character I fell in love with
2. The character I never expected to love as much as I do now
3. The character everyone else loves that I don't
4. The character I love that everyone else hates
5. The character I used to love but don't any longer
6. The character I would shag anytime
7. The character I'd want to be like
8. The character I'd slap
9. A pairing that I love
10. A pairing that I despise

I have another one from her that I am apparently obligated to post, but it would be confusing to have that in the same post so maybe when this one dies out or something!

I was going to say Utena, but I'm not certain if I want spoilers. So let's say Veronica Mars instead.

1. Veronica, I guess!
2. Tough call. I guess either Logan or Dick.
3. I can't think of one! I guess if you replace character with episode, then "That episode where Veronica's dreaming/fantasizing that she's on the bus which crashed talking to dead people."
4. Well, I don't love Duncan, but i don't hate him either, which is probably high praise relative to most of the fandom.
5. I don't not-love Keith Mars, but the second time through the show I noticed a lot more detectiving mistakes he made than I noticed the first time around. He's still a great dad and stuff, though, and some detective stuff he does well..
6. Veronica. Or Mac.
7. Veronica, or Mac, again.
8. There've been a lot of people on the show that deserve to be slapped, but which one would give me the most personal satisfaction? Hmm... that dude in s3 that committed the rapes, maybe. Can't recall his name.
9. Logan/Veronica is very entertaining to watch, but I don't really think they're good for each other. I could get behind Veronica/Leo. That was sweet!
10. I don't know if there's any fandom-backed pairing not in the show that's particularly horrible... I can't think of any in the show I outright despise, though, unless you count ones with villians which you are clearly supposed to despise (mac/cassidy, etc. poor mac :( )

I wish I could pick a setting to make LJ recognize forum text markup code for me since I constantly forget to use real html here

FF7!!!!

It's been a long time, and I don't think I replayed it as much as some people! I'll try.

1. Aeris, I guess. What can I say, I was apparently a sucker for feeling the way the game wants you to feel!
2. I donno. Rufus Shinra? He was a pretty decent villian.
3. I remember not being too enamored with Cid, at least, not as much as everyone else. Don't recall why!
4. I spose Aeris.
5. I guess all of them, since it's been so long since I played.
6. Aeris or Tifa. Maybe Yuffie if she's a little older and my belongings are safely secured elsewhere.
7. I.. can't think of... Bugenhagen?
8. Any otakukin who is the reincarnation of Sephiroth.
9. Cloud / Don Corneo.
10. Cloud / Sephiroth. Okay I don't actually hate it that much, as relatively-baseless fan-backed pairings go it's not the most ridiculous, but, SERIOUSLY PEOPLE COME ON

buffy!

I'll just assume you mean specifically Buffy and not Angel (also i have never read the comics)

1. I guess Willow? And Giles
2. Spike.
3. I don't hate Tara, but I'm kinda neutral on her I guess, and... I think a lot of people like her? I donno. She sings well, though. Oh yeah, also Buffy herself, I guess.
4 "Spicule," to borrow TWoP's term for S7 Spike. And Adam.
5. I can't think of any. I guess it just hasn't been that long since I watched the whole thing! A little over three years, I guess, so not like a super-short time, but evidently I haven't mulled over it long enough to reconsider how much I like people.
6. "Anytime" rules out Cordy and Anya, although they are sometimes pretty ..shaggable. Willow is a given I guess... OH. Jenny Calendar! As long as "anytime" means "while they're alive." She was hot.
7. Willow, or Giles
8. Xander and Anya; see 10.
9. Spike/Buffy, I guess, mostly for how we got to see how Spike changed.
10. I don't despise Xander/Anya in the least, but I hate how it ended. It was just.. I donno! You have all these mutual friends, surely someone can step up and say "HEY BY THE WAY ANYA HE DIDN'T MEAN HE WANTED TO BREAK UP JUST HE WANTS TO WAIT A WHILE BEFORE TYING THE KNOT"

but noooo.

I'm not really sure what purpose it served to break them up, since neither of them hooked up with anyone else after... was it really just to get Anya to turn back into a demon for a little while? I donno, man!
10th-Apr-2008 01:30 am (UTC)
Well, Xander/Anya DIDN'T really end though... there was a hiatus, but by the end of s7 it seemed pretty clear that they would be heading back on the path to luv. And then she, you know, died.

The purpose of breaking them up was to cause characters pain. Usually Joss Whedon does this in more complicated and subtle ways, but even in this more obvious example, it's rather par for course.
10th-Apr-2008 03:00 pm (UTC)
See, I mean, you can call it a hiatus, but she died before they got back together, so there was really no end to the hiatus, which means that it was a permanent hiatus which is pretty much like it ending.

And yeah, it caused characters pain which is useful for telling the story because it's boring if everyone is happy all the time blah blah, but, at the same time, those two were really the only main characters headed towards a marriage-state (since Willow messed up things with Tara), and there'd be plenty of opportunities for other sorts of pain that don't involve breaking up with each other. It just seemed--I donno, overly fatalistic for them to break up, and as I said, it didn't even really make sense since the reason for them breaking up is something that should've been easy enough to fix!

I could've bought it if Anya went demon-style for a bit, briefly thought it was too late to fix things, then realized it's never too late and they actually hooked back up before she died. Or, maybe, she doesn't die. I donno! Her death at the end was basically just there as if to say "hey we are killing people, check it out!"

Unicorn Jelly.
10th-Apr-2008 03:12 pm (UTC)
1. Probably Chou
2. Sisu, I spose.
3. I've been out of touch with the fandom for a while.
4. The... entire comic? Or, Texto.
5. Maybe the entire comic here too. I'm not sure. I still appreciate it as an epic story, and I don't think it deserves one tenth of the hate some parts of the internet have expressed for it, but at the same time, it's not..really..as good as I thought it was a few years back. It does have some fantastic moments, though, still.
6. Pff I donno, I guess Lupiko by default
7. Sisu
8. Arg, I can't remember the characters' names... uhm, Lupiko's sister? Or that alchemist she was with, that wrote the childrens books but was kind of evil?
9 & 10. I don't think I especially feel strongly about any of the pairings apart from like, "this is what's in the story so here it is"
